Intercessions  Advent Sunday


Let us Pray


Lord God

hear now our prayers for our community and world


Christ Jesus 

may we not be too busy looking for your coming

or the fact you are already here

that we miss what we need to be doing today

if we are to be your followers.


May we worship you

in all that we do and say

so that people may 

experience your love for them

through our loving.


Lord in your mercy

hear our prayer


In the face of reports and media headlines

we pray for your church

and especially the Church of England

as it works out how it can provide

a safe place for people to be.

We pray for the survivors of abuse

that they might feel truly listened to

and that with changes in practice 

justice will be be done.


Lord in your mercy

hear our prayer


In an ever unstable world

where many conflicts get forgotten about

we know you our God

do not forget those who suffer.


Keep on reminding us to see

how the world is interrelated,

and that until all are safe no one is.

Come then with justice and peace

O Christ

for we pray for lasting ceasefires in 

Lebanon, Sudan, Gaza, Ukraine and Syria,

and help us to live at peace 

with our neighbours


Lord in your mercy

hear our prayer


In the face of climate change

we pray for all 

who have been affected by floods

and the changing weather patterns 

that put lives at risk

and threatens the delicate balance of nature.

May our government and all governments

prioritise the care of the planet

even if it cots us all.


Lord in your mercy

hear our prayer


Christ Jesus

you taught us 

that not all who called you Lord

actually mean it

rather

those who do justice

and show mercy.

Open our eyes then

to those who need your care

and may we not be found wanting.


Lord in your mercy

hear our prayer


Christ Jesus 

as we journey 

through this Advent season

with expectant hearts

may we not be too busy

looking for the signs of your coming

for your told us no one knows when it will happen,

rather may we hear your call to follow,

and with you

create Your Kingdom now. Amen

A new begining

 It is now six weeks since we left Sheffield after 14 years living and working in the inner city.  But I need to re wind to Palm Sunday and Easter Day before I start on living in Banbury. On Palm Sunday I shared in my final service at St Peters LEP Ellesmere. It was a wonderful time with a delicious buffet that followed. The warmth of a community that I have increasingly grown to love and care about was very tangible. I will miss people and leading worship in their great worship space.  The pleasure was added to a couple of weeks later when Jill and I joined Bill at his 100 birthday party and to be invited to say a few words was a genuine privilege. There will always be a special place in my memory of St Peters, a community that welcomed and accepted everyone without placing demands upon them. They really are Christ like. 40 years and counting

 Everyone says it and it's true "where have all those years gone?" So we decided we should celebrate 40 years. As it rained on our wedding day and only briefly stopped as we came out of church, we hoped we would get a dry day otherwise where would everyone go? We became obsessed with checking the weather forecast which in true British fashion kept changing right up to the finally day. So we managed to get two awnings to play safe. Thankfully we had a dry and sunny day so everyone could sit under shade or wander around the garden. We had a lovely cake which one of our daughters had arranged to be made. The cake  like all the food we prepared needed to be Gluten Free, so our grandchildren and son in laws, who have been diagnosed Coeliac had no worries about what they could eat. No one knew at all. Mama Mia

This year's Christmas present to our two eldest grandchildren was to take them to see Mama Mia at the Novello Theatre London.  By chance after Christmas, while at church, I was explaining to one of our members over coffee after the service, what we were up to in the next few days.  "Oh when we are back down in London we are off to see Mama Mia with the grandchildren" Well the response surprised me.  "My grandson is one of the performers I bet he will be willing to take them back stage."  By the end of the day she had spoken to her daughter, who in turn spoke to her son Luke, who then texted us to arrange the event.  So Saturday came round. At 1.10 with two excited grandchildren we were at the stage door being let in. Well Luke plays one of the key roles, that of Sam Carmichael (played by Pierce Brosnan in the film).
